What it does
The 20KSND is a sound-activated controller for RGB LED strip lights. It reads the ambient sound in the room with a built-in microphone and changes the colour of your strip in sync with the beat of whatever is playing — a stereo, a TV, a DJ set or even people clapping. Because the reaction comes from ambient sound and not from a wired audio signal, there's nothing to connect to your sound system: the controller simply listens to the room. Sensitivity is adjustable, so you can tune how easily it triggers depending on whether the speakers are right beside it or across a large basement.
The four sound modes
Sound option 1: when there's no sound, the LED strip fades softly between colours, and the colour alternates in sync with the sound. Sound option 2: with no sound the lights pulse and alternate colour, then follow the beat when music starts. Sound option 3: the strip holds a single colour when the room is quiet and switches colour on the beat. Sound option 4: the lights stay off until sound is detected, then turn on and alternate colour with the music — perfect for a dramatic entrance or a stage-style effect. That gives you everything from a subtle ambient glow to a full dance-floor reaction, without changing any hardware.
Remote and everyday control
The included 20 key remote is a multi-function handset with direct colour selection and different flash modes, so the controller isn't only a party accessory — it's also your everyday on/off and colour picker. Pick a warm red for movie night, a cool blue for gaming, or set a flash or fade effect and leave it running. Because all the modes live on the remote, anyone in the house can use it without an app or a phone, which is a real advantage in a rental unit, a bar or a classroom where the lighting has to stay simple.
Installation and compatibility
Wiring is straightforward: low-voltage DC power supply, then the controller, then the RGB LED strip. The controller is intended for multi-colour RGB strips (the four-conductor type with R, G, B and common), not for single-colour white strips or for addressable pixel tape. Keep the receiver where its microphone can actually hear the room — inside a closed cabinet or behind a heavy valance it will barely react — and keep the remote's line of sight to the receiver clear. If you are splitting a long run or feeding several sections, plan your power supply and amplification accordingly so every metre of LED strip lighting gets the same colour and brightness.
Where it earns its keep
Home theatres, basement bars, bedrooms, games and karaoke rooms, RV and van builds, DJ booths, restaurant and lounge ceilings, retail window displays, gyms and event spaces all benefit from strip lighting that moves with the music. In Canadian homes, it's an easy winter-project upgrade: cove lighting around a rec room ceiling, a backlit bar counter or a LED ceiling light strip detail that goes from calm to party mode in one button press. For residential and commercial projects alike, the 20KSND from LED MONTREAL is the simplest way to make an existing RGB installation feel brand new.
