Built for permanent LED strip installs
The Double Sided 3M 9495LE Tape for LED Strips is a double coated, double sided transparent tape designed for one job: holding LED strip lights, rigid LED bars and aluminum profiles firmly against a mounting surface. Unlike foam-backed mounting tapes that add bulk and create a visible white line along the edge of an extrusion, this one is completely clear and disappears into the installation. It comes on a 55-meter roll, which is enough to cover long runs of cove lighting, a full kitchen of under-cabinet strips, or several commercial display units without stopping to reorder.
The adhesive and why it matters
The tape uses a 300LSE acrylic adhesive, a formulation built to bond to low surface energy materials — the smooth, slick plastics and coated metals that ordinary adhesives slide right off. That is why it performs where the factory-applied backing on a LED tape light gives up, and why it is the go-to solution for rigid LED bars and aluminum profiles that ship without any self-adhesive backing. Its very low profile also keeps the strip tight against the mounting surface, which helps heat move away from the diodes. Better heat exchange means a longer useful life for your LED strip lighting, a detail that pays off in coves and enclosed channels where heat tends to build up.

Installation, step by step
Start with the surface, because 90% of failed adhesive jobs are really failed prep jobs. Clean the mounting surface thoroughly: water alone can be used for a quick clean, but for best results use a 50:50 to 70:30 isopropyl alcohol and water solution with a lint-free cloth. Let it dry completely. Work within the recommended installation temperature range of 21 to 38° Celsius — a cold garage in January is not the place to bond tape, so warm the space and the materials first. Apply the 10mm tape along the back of the profile or the strip, peel the liner progressively as you go, and press firmly along the entire run so the adhesive makes full contact. On long horizontal runs or overhead installs, add temporary pressure or clips while the bond builds.
Where it gets used and documentation
Homeowners use it for under-cabinet lighting, toe-kick accents, stair lighting, closets, headboards and basement coves. Contractors and small businesses use it for retail shelving and display cases, reception desks, bar fronts, office cove lighting and signage backlighting — anywhere a LED strip must stay mounted through years of vibration, cleaning and temperature swings. Because it is clear and only 10mm wide, it also works neatly on glass shelves and mirrored surfaces where a white foam tape would show.
