What it is and how it's built
This is a double-sided acrylic foam tape from LED MONTREAL, supplied in a 10 mm wide, 3 meter long roll. The padded foam carrier is what separates it from a thin film tape: it compensates for small surface irregularities, spreads the load along the whole length of an extrusion and grips both faces at once. The result is a bond that behaves like a mechanical fastener while staying completely invisible once the aluminum LED channel is pressed into place. It is described as super strong and water resistant, which is why it suits permanent and outdoor-exposed installations rather than temporary staging.

Surface prep and installation
Adhesion is 90% preparation. Start by cleaning the mounting surface: water alone is acceptable for a quick clean-up, but for best results wipe the surface with a 50:50 to 70:30 isopropyl alcohol and water solution using a lint-free cloth, then let it dry completely. Unroll the tape along the back of the profile, press it down firmly over its full length, remove the liner, position the channel and apply steady pressure end to end so the foam compresses evenly against the substrate. Because the bond is designed to be permanent, dry-fit your LED profile and confirm the run, the corners and the location of the driver connection before you peel the liner. On long runs, cut several sections rather than fighting one continuous strip — it makes alignment far easier on ceilings and soffits.
Compatibility and what it should not be used for
The 10 mm width is sized for the flat back of slim and mid-size extrusions, so the tape stays fully concealed under the channel. It also works for other lighting accessories that need to be fixed to metal, glass, plastic or anodized aluminum: mounting clips, small junction housings, sensor bodies, sign faces. One important limit: this tape acts as an electrical insulator rather than a heat conductor, so it should not be used to stick LED strip tape directly to a surface when that strip relies on the aluminum extrusion to dissipate heat. Mount the channel with the tape, then seat the strip inside the channel the way it was designed to be installed — the LEDs run cooler and last longer.
Where it shines on real projects
Think under-cabinet and shelf lighting in kitchens, backlit bathroom mirrors and vanity runs, closet and pantry strips, cove lighting in living rooms, stair nosings, retail display cases, reception desks, restaurant bars, office workstations and workshop benches. Outdoors it handles pergolas, covered patios, railings, docks and signage, where its water resistant build is a real advantage through a Canadian season. It's also the go-to solution for rental units, condos and commercial spaces where drilling into tile, glass, stone or finished millwork simply isn't allowed.
