What this accessory actually doesA
door opening detector is the small brain behind automatic cabinet lighting. It is wired in-line on the low-voltage side of your installation, between the LED driver and the light, and it opens or closes that circuit depending on whether the door is open or shut. The result is hands-free light exactly where and when it is needed: no wall switch to hunt for with your arms full, no lights left burning inside a closed cabinet. Because it reacts to the door itself rather than to motion in the room, it never triggers by accident when someone simply walks past — a real advantage in kitchens, offices and retail spaces where a
motion sensor for light would be switching all day long.
Technical specificationsSKU: LCLSACC-DOORDECT-12V-24V
Type: door opening detector / automatic cabinet door sensor
Operating voltage: 12V-24V DC
Application: residential and commercial projects
Category: connectors and wiring accessory for low-voltage LED lighting
Wiring and installationAll the work happens on the
low-voltage DC side, which is what makes this such a friendly accessory for cabinetmakers and finishing carpenters. Plan your run first: driver, then the detector, then the LED load it commands. Keep polarity consistent from the driver through to the strip or puck light, make your connections mechanically sound, and leave a small service loop so the sensor can be pulled out later without cutting wire. Mount the detector where the door edge or door stile passes in front of it, inside the cabinet box, and test the swing before you fasten anything permanently. Size your driver for the total load of the fixtures on that circuit, not for the sensor, and remember that the detector must always be fed by the same DC voltage as the lights it controls —
12V with a 12V system,
24V with a 24V system.
Compatibility with your other controlsThis detector lives happily in a mixed control layout. Give each cabinet or closet its own door detector, then handle the open zones — under-counter lighting, toe-kick, shelving — with manual controls such as the
black rocker switch or the
white rocker switch, both also 12/24V. For touch-activated shelves and display niches, a
Blue Touch sensor covers what a door cannot. On long tape runs where voltage needs a boost across several channels, a
4-channel 20A amplifier keeps the light even from end to end. Because everything shares the same 12/24V language, one driver family can feed the whole job.
Real projects, real examplesThink of a pantry door that lights a full shelving wall the moment it swings; a walk-in closet where each section lights only as you open it; a jewellery display case in a boutique that presents itself the second a client reaches in; a reception desk or file cabinet in an office that stays dark and tidy until it is used. In Canadian homes it earns its keep all winter, when short days turn every hallway closet into a black hole. Buy one per door for the cleanest result, and note the model
