Safety and ambiance for your deck
The LS-RD12-DTW is a 12V LED deck and step light designed to light the way on outdoor stairs, decks and patios. Steps are one of the most common trip hazards once night falls, and small, well-placed fixtures make each one clearly visible. At the same time, low-level lighting highlights the architecture of your deck and turns it into a true outdoor room, instead of a dark space you avoid after sunset.
Dim-to-warm light
This fixture features dim-to-warm operation. Rather than simply becoming darker when dimmed, the light shifts to a warmer tone as its level drops, much like an incandescent lamp. That gives you bright, clear light when you need to see well, and a soft, intimate glow when you want to relax with friends. It is a wonderful way to set the mood for summer dinners, backyard fires and quiet evenings on the deck.
Output and power
Rated at 0.7W with an output of 75 lm, the LS-RD12-DTW is designed as an accent and wayfinding light. It provides enough light to identify steps and edges while keeping the atmosphere subtle and comfortable. Its tiny power draw means you can install many fixtures on one circuit. Since it runs on 12V low voltage, add up the total wattage of all fixtures on the run and choose a 12V transformer or power supply with enough capacity and some headroom. If you plan to use its dim-to-warm feature, select dimming equipment compatible with your power supply and fixtures.
Installation tips
Plan fixture locations first: one per step or every few steps on long stairways, and at regular intervals along deck edges, benches and planters. Route low-voltage cable along joists or beneath decking where it is protected, keep connections tight and sealed from the elements, and follow the mounting instructions supplied with the fixture. For the connection of the transformer to line voltage, call a licensed electrician, as required by electrical codes across Canada.
Where it shines
Use these LED step lights on backyard decks, cottage stairs, rooftop terraces, pergolas and garden paths. Landscapers and deck builders appreciate how easily low-voltage fixtures integrate into new builds and renovations, and homeowners love the finished, upscale look they give to an outdoor space all season long.
