Wires & Cables

Reliable wiring is the backbone of every LED lighting installation. The right wires and cables ensure consistent power delivery, accurate color control, and long-term durability for your strip lights, controllers, and fixtures. Whether you're running a simple single-color strip or a complex RGBW setup, choosing the correct gauge and conductor count makes all the difference.

Types & Options

We carry a full range of low-voltage connection wires to match any LED project:

2-conductor wire (22-2, 18-2): The standard choice for single-color LED strips and basic DC power runs. Available in transparent, black-and-red, and standard gray jackets.

4-conductor wire (22-4 RGB): Designed for RGB color-changing strips, with one conductor per channel plus a common line.

5- and 6-conductor wire (22-5 RGBW, FT6 22-6): Ideal for RGBW and RGBWW installations that require additional channels for white tuning.

Outdoor landscaping wire (18/2): A heavier-gauge, jacketed cable built to withstand moisture and outdoor conditions for landscape lighting.

Where to Use Them

These wires serve residential projects like under-cabinet lighting, cove lighting, and accent strips, as well as commercial applications such as retail displays, signage, and architectural lighting. The outdoor-rated options are suited for landscape and garden installations where exposure to the elements is a factor.

How to Choose

Start with the conductor count: match it to your light type — 2 conductors for single-color, 4 for RGB, 5 or 6 for RGBW/RGBWW. Next, consider wire gauge: a lower gauge number (like 18) means a thicker wire that handles longer runs and higher current with less voltage drop, while 22 gauge works well for shorter runs. For exterior projects, always select a jacketed, outdoor-rated cable. Finally, plan your total run length to avoid power loss over distance.

FAQ

What gauge wire do I need for my LED strip? For short indoor runs, 22 gauge is typically sufficient. For longer distances or higher-power strips, opt for 18 gauge to reduce voltage drop.

Can I use 2-conductor wire for RGB strips? No. RGB strips require at least 4 conductors, and RGBW needs 5 or more to control each color channel independently.

Is regular wire safe for outdoor use? No. Outdoor installations need a jacketed, weather-resistant cable like our 18/2 landscaping wire to protect against moisture and temperature changes.
