What this accessory is
The SPECLITE ZZALBS300V2 is a bird spikes accessory kit made for the Area Light V2 luminaire in its 300W version. It belongs to the family of area light accessories — the same shelf as mounting arms, slipfitters, shields and photocell caps — and its only job is anti-perching protection. Because it is a mechanical accessory, there are no photometric or electrical values to publish: no lumens, no CCT, no CRI, no voltage and no IP rating are listed for this part. What matters is fit and function, and both are dictated by one thing: the 300W Area Light V2 housing it was drawn for.
Why bird protection pays off on outdoor lighting
An outdoor area light is warm, elevated, flat on top and has a clear view of the ground — everything a bird wants in a perch. Left unprotected, droppings accumulate on the housing and run down onto the lens, cutting usable light output, staining the finish and forcing maintenance crews back up in a lift far sooner than planned. Nesting material can also collect in corners and around the mounting arm. Spikes solve the problem at the source, passively and permanently, without harming the birds — they simply make landing uncomfortable, so the birds move elsewhere. For property managers, that means fewer cleaning calls, a parking lot that photographs well and lighting levels that stay closer to the original design.

Installation and site notes
Plan the spikes into the original installation whenever you can. Mounting them on the ground or on the bench before the shoebox area light goes up on the pole is far easier and safer than a second lift later, and it means the fixture is protected from its very first night of operation. On retrofit jobs, clean the top of the housing first so the spikes sit flat and stay put. Keep the spikes clear of the optical face and of any photocell receptacle so nothing shades the sensor. Since the kit adds no electrical load and no connections, it does not affect the fixture's driver, dimming behaviour or any warranty-related wiring — but always follow the manufacturer's mounting instructions and the Canadian Electrical Code requirements for the luminaire itself.
Applications and documentation
Typical projects include big-box and grocery parking lot lighting, multi-residential visitor parking, industrial yards, loading areas, marinas and lakeside properties, school and arena lots, and any rural or agricultural site where flocking birds are part of daily life. In coastal and waterfront Canadian locations — where gulls are relentless — spikes are close to mandatory on tall pole-mounted gear. Anywhere snow, salt and spring nesting season combine, an unprotected fixture top gets dirty fast. The technical PDF for ZZALBS300V2 is available in the Documentation tab; download it for your submittal package, and specify one kit per 300W Area Light V2 luminaire on the project so nothing is missing on installation day.
