Construction built for 8-foot fixturesThe LCT8-8F-120V-42W-50K is an
8-foot T8 glass tube with a painted/coated glass body and a
frosted lens that softens the light and hides the individual LEDs. Its length is 94 inches and it uses FA8 end caps, the single-pin base found on 8-foot tube fixtures. Glass gives the tube a familiar look and feel for anyone used to fluorescent lamps, while the LED technology inside delivers the performance of a modern light source. It is the logical replacement when your shop lights, warehouse strips or commercial fixtures still hold 8-foot fluorescent tubes.
Light quality and efficiencyWith
5,500 lumens for 42 watts, the tube reaches a luminous efficacy of 130 lm/W, so you get more light for every watt consumed. The
5000K colour temperature gives a bright, daylight-style white that keeps workspaces alert and makes it easier to see details on a workbench or read labels on shelves. A CRI of 83 renders colours clearly for everyday tasks, and the 220° beam angle spreads the light wide, toward the work surface and the surroundings, for an even result in long aisles and large rooms.
Electrical and installation detailsThis is a
Type B ballast bypass tube: it runs directly on AC, and the wiring is double-ended, as shown in the wiring diagram of the spec sheet. The ballast is removed or disconnected, and the fixture is rewired so that the tube receives power as the diagram indicates. The input voltage is 120-277V at 50/60Hz and the power factor is above 0.9. The tube is not dimmable, so connect it to a standard switch, not a dimmer. Have a
qualified electrician do the conversion with the power off at the breaker, in compliance with the electrical code in force, and mark the converted fixture so no one reinstalls a fluorescent tube later. The spec sheet is available in the Documentation tab.
Durability for Canadian conditionsThe tube is suitable for
damp locations and operates from -20 °C to 40 °C, which covers unheated garages, workshops, barns and storage buildings through much of the Canadian winter. Its lifespan of 50,000 hours means years of use before any relamping, a major advantage for high fixtures that require a ladder or a lift, and it is backed by a
5-year warranty. For smaller fixtures in the same building, the
2' T8 LED tube completes the conversion.
