What this kit is and what it solves
Recessed LED flat panels are designed to drop into a suspended grid or a prepared ceiling opening. When the ceiling is a poured concrete slab, a finished drywall surface, a wood deck or a rental space where cutting is not allowed, you need another way to hang the fixture. The CANOLIGHT surface mount kit is that other way: a frame that wraps the panel and fastens to the ceiling face, converting a recessed panel into a surface mounted LED panel. It removes the need for drywall cut-outs, patching, dust control and inspection headaches, which is why it shows up so often on renovation and retrofit sites rather than new construction.
Construction and finished look
The frame is engineered for a precise fit around the panel so the light sits flush and stays put — no rocking, no visible gap line creeping open over time. The low-profile design keeps the projection from the ceiling minimal, so the fixture reads as a slim architectural element instead of a bulky box. The housing is shaped to reduce shadow gaps between the panel edge and the ceiling surface, giving the clean, continuous lines that modern interiors are built around. In corridors, open offices and clinics where several fixtures run in a line, that consistency is what makes the ceiling look professionally finished.
Installation notes
Everything needed to mount the panel directly on a flat ceiling surface comes in the kit, so there's no scramble for extra hardware mid-install. Typical sequence: locate and mark the frame position on the ceiling, anchor the frame to the structure with fasteners suited to your substrate (concrete anchors for slab, appropriate anchors or fastening into framing for drywall ceilings), bring the supply conductors and the panel driver into the assembly, then secure the panel into the frame. Because the work happens on the surface, one person can often stage the frame while a second makes the connections, which keeps multi-fixture jobs moving. Wiring and driver placement must follow the instructions supplied with your panel and the Canadian Electrical Code, and connections should be made by a qualified electrician.
Compatibility
This kit is sized for 1x4 ft LED panels. It is not intended for other panel formats — match the kit size to the panel size and the fit is exact. Ordering the frame at the same time as the panel is the simplest route: same format, same project, one delivery, no mismatched parts on site. If your ceiling is a standard T-bar grid, you don't need this kit at all; it's specifically for ceilings where the panel has to sit on the surface.

Offices and boardrooms with drywall ceilings, school and college classrooms, medical and dental clinics, exam and treatment rooms, retail sales floors, back-of-house corridors, community centres, church halls, condo lobbies and finished basements are all common homes for the CL-Sm-KIT-1x4.
