Built from rigid PVC, on purposeRigid PVC is the workhorse material of modern electrical enclosures for good reason. It is
non-metallic and non-conductive, so the box itself never becomes part of the electrical path, and it will not rust or corrode in a humid basement, a laundry room, a mechanical room or a garage where road salt and melting snow come in on the vehicles. The rigid construction is what separates this box from a flimsy enclosure: it holds its shape when you tighten a connector, resists crushing when insulation or framing presses against it, and keeps the cover seating properly year after year. Because it is light, one person can hold it in place and drive the screws without a second set of hands.
Making up connections the right wayCodes across Canada are clear on one point: splices must be made inside an approved enclosure and must remain accessible. That is exactly the job of this
electrical junction box. Use it to extend a circuit when a wall moves, to join a run of cable to a fixture whip, to create a feed point for a row of luminaires, or to break out power to receptacles, outlets and switches. Strip and land your conductors, cap them with the appropriate connectors, fold them neatly into the box so nothing is pinched, then close it up. Leave enough free conductor length to work with, keep the cover reachable behind an access panel or a removable ceiling tile, and your future self — or the next electrician — will be able to troubleshoot in minutes instead of hours.

Installation and mountingMount the box on a joist, a stud, plywood backing, a concrete or block wall with the appropriate anchors, or on strut in a mechanical space. Plan your entries first: choose where cable or conduit will come in, keep openings tidy and use the proper connectors so the cable jacket is supported at the box and the conductors are not chafed. Orient the box so the cover faces an accessible direction — nothing is more frustrating than a
junction box buried facing a wall. In a ceiling, remember that a standard junction box is for splices; if you are hanging a luminaire, make sure the support method is rated for the weight of the fixture. And always kill the circuit at the panel and confirm it is dead before you open anything up.
Applications, related boxes and documentationTypical jobs include finishing a basement, rewiring a garage or workshop, adding pot lights or linear fixtures in a renovation, feeding signage and display lighting in a retail space, tidying up connections above a suspended ceiling in an office, or distributing power in a warehouse or farm building. If this size does not match your conductor count or your available space, look at the
PVC rigid junction box LCJUNCBOX-PVC-12126 or the smaller
PVC rigid junction box LCJUNCBOX-PVC-552; for a large pull point or a heavier-duty enclosure, the
metal junction box is the one to compare; and for splices exposed to rain, snow or direct washdown, step up to the
waterproof outdoor junction box IP68. No spec sheet is currently posted for this model; any documentation added later will appear in the Documentation tab of this page.
