Built for retrofits, not for rewiringThe whole point of the LED-8030M57-MHBC is speed. It is a
metal halide ballast compatible LED lamp, meaning it runs off the existing magnetic or electronic ballast already sitting in your high bay housing. Light Efficient Design rates the installation as easy to medium: no wiring, mogul base only. Your electrician removes the old HID lamp, threads in the LED, closes the fixture and moves to the next one. On a floor with fifty or a hundred bays, that difference in labour is the whole project budget. The lamp is compatible with both
Pulse and Probe start ballasts, and the ballast input can be 120V, 208V, 240V, 377V, 347V or 480V, which covers the vast majority of Canadian industrial services.
Light quality and the upward LEDsOld HID lamps are point sources: bright in the middle, dark at the edges, with shadows behind racking. This lamp uses
upward-facing LEDs so part of the output is thrown into the reflector of the enclosed high bay and redistributed across a wider area. The result is a flatter, more even light field on the floor and fewer dark zones between fixtures. At
5700K, the output is a cool daylight white that reads as clean and bright, favoured for inspection tasks, picking and packing, and any area where safety depends on seeing edges and markings clearly. Colour rendering sits at
80+ CRI, enough to keep colour-coded bins, wiring and safety signage easy to distinguish.

Durability and thermal designHeat is what kills retrofit lamps, so this family uses
advanced active cooling with dynamic temperature control to keep the diodes in their comfort zone inside a closed reflector. The housing is
insect and dust resistant, which matters in agricultural buildings, mills and any dusty production environment where bugs used to collect in the old fixture bowl. The
integrated 6kA surge protection guards against the spikes that come with heavy equipment starting and stopping on the same service, and the -40°F to 122°F operating range means unheated storage buildings and cold-climate loading docks are fair game. Approval for damp locations and enclosed fixtures lets you keep the original glass lens or gasketed bowl in place.
Applications, family and documentationThink distribution warehouses, machine shops, auto and truck service bays, recycling facilities, arenas, riding arenas, greenhouses and municipal garages. Anywhere a 400W metal halide is still humming away and taking minutes to restrike after a power blip, this lamp is the fast fix. Prefer 4000K for a softer, more neutral industrial white? The
LED-8030M40-MHBC retrofit lamp is the same platform. For exterior HID on the same site, Light Efficient Design also offers the
80W shoe box and wall pack retrofit and the
50W shoe box and wall pack retrofit. The full technical PDF for the 8035, 8036, 8030 and 8032 MHBC series is in the Documentation tab — download it to confirm your ballast type and base before ordering.
