Construction and how it works
At the heart of this module is a metal oxide varistor (MOV), a component whose resistance collapses the instant voltage climbs above its clamping threshold. Under normal conditions the varistor is effectively invisible to the circuit; when a transient arrives, it conducts within nanoseconds and shunts the surge energy to ground before it can reach the LED driver downstream. The custom LSP module format keeps everything sealed in a compact body with a custom mounting hole and UL marking, so it can be anchored inside a luminaire housing, a pole hand hole or an enclosure without loose hardware. Flying leads in AWG18 wire come colour-coded — black for line, white for neutral, green for ground — which makes identification fast even in a crowded junction box.
Protection modes and electrical performance
Where a basic suppressor only watches the line-to-neutral path, this one covers three modes: L-N, L-G and N-G. That matters because real-world surges rarely arrive politely on one conductor — utility switching, capacitor bank adjustments and indirect lightning coupling all push energy onto neutral and ground as well. With a nominal discharge current of 5000 A and a maximum discharge current of 10000 A on an ITM 1 x pulse, the module has the headroom to absorb repeated events over the life of the installation rather than sacrificing itself on the first hit. The 277 Vac MCOV rating makes it the right choice for 277 V commercial and industrial branch circuits.

Installation and compatibility
Installation is deliberately simple: the module is wired in parallel with the load, line to black, neutral to white and ground to green, either at the panel, inside the fixture compartment or at the pole base. No specialized tools, no programming, no complex wiring configuration. Because it is a surge protection device defined by voltage rather than by fixture model, it works with LED drivers, area lights, high bays, wall packs, canopy fixtures and controls operating on a compatible 277 V supply — always confirm the circuit voltage and follow the Canadian Electrical Code along with the luminaire manufacturer's instructions. All work should be carried out by a licensed electrician.
Applications and documentation
Think of the sites where replacing a fixture means a lift, a road closure or a shutdown: parking lot and roadway poles, distribution centre high bays, arena and rink lighting, grocery and big-box retail, food processing plants, farm and agricultural buildings, and municipal streetscapes with bollards and pathway lighting. On rural feeders and long overhead services — common across much of Canada — transient events are simply part of life, and a few dollars of LED surge protection keeps maintenance calls and premature driver failures off your schedule.
